Ohio State Buckeye could make the Patriots

The New England Patriots didn't just sign Ohio State tight end Rashod Berry to play tight end, they had bigger things in mind. They're thinking along the likes of Mike Vrabel, Elandon Roberts, Gunner Olszewski. That's why Berry is a tight end working out as an edge defender.

Jeff Hafley defensive coordinator for the Buckeyes recently spoke a out Berry. Talking about how the kid was misused at Ohio State and underdeveloped.

“Last year at Ohio State, I was the defensive coordinator, but he was on offense for the first part (of the season). I would tell (Ohio State head coach) Ryan (Day) all the time, ‘This kid’s explosive, he’s quick-twitch, he can get open.’ And they weren’t really using him that much.

At the end of the year, I asked if I could get him on defense, and we started having him rush the passer. In the Penn State game, he beat a tackle so fast off the edge and hit the quarterback. I was like, ‘I wish I had this kid for two years.’

So I like the fact that (the Patriots) list him as both (positions). I think he has tremendous upside, and if he puts in the work and does everything they ask, you’re going to see a kid who can flash athletically.”

While Berry didn't put up the greatest stats, it could've been because he was under used. Berry stands 6'4", weights 254 pounds and reportedly can run a 4.40 forty. Belichick and the Patriots do their homework, so if Berry's playing defense; it's because he has the ability.

Out of all the UDFAs Berry may have some of the better odds as making the roster, as the Patriots are thin in both the front seven and at tight end.
