How Jarrett Stidham can beat out Cam Newton.

Skyler Carlin,, Patriots and NFL writer for clutch points, who never sleeps and seems to always have an interesting take. Wrote an article on Sunday titled, " How Patriots quarterback Jarrett Stidham can win Patriots' starting Job over Cam Newton."

The thing is, it's not impossible and many who know football know that. It maybe unlike but definitely not impossible. "BS, there's know way" says Patriots Nation. Tell that to Bledsoe fans in 2000 or Panthers fans in the spring of 2019. In the NFL anything is possible.

NFL Network analyst Charley Casserly explains why he believes, Stidham could be the early victor.

On Total Access  Casserly said, “First-round throwing talent, that’s (the) No. 1 (reason). No. 2, last year was a better rookie year than (Jimmy) Garoppolo in preseason when you look at the tape. He got better during the season. Look for them to get the ball with more deep throws with Stidham than Brady. Get him outside the pocket a little more. He can win the job. Make good decisions and protect the football. That’s how he wins the job.”

Naysayers are going to say, "but he couldn't protect the ball versus the Jets" ; well neither could Tom Brady on his last pass versus the Titans. If you really want to talk about protecting the football, Cam Newton has 108 fumbles and 52 interceptions over his 8 years as a starter. That means he fails to protect the ball 20 times a season. Wanna drop the garbage time interception arguement?

The preseason is the preseason. Stats don't count but performance does. He beat out Brian Hoyer for the backup job and out performed all of Brady's former backups.

Cam Newton is the clear front runner. There have been cases made to why he shouldn't be but in the end, we all know he is. He has like an 80% chance to start compared to Stidham's 15%.

Carlin says, "Also, saying that all Stidham has to do is make good decisions and protect the football is easier said than done."

However, that is largely what Stidham has to do, to beat Newton out. He has to play mistake free football and show he has improved and can lead the offense. He displayed leadership ability by assembling a training camp this offseason and has to continue that leadership during the competition.

Belichick will determine the starter. Even if Stidham doesn't win the week one start, he could win the starying job come week seven. However, he has a great chance to be the last quarterback standing come the start of Camp in 2021. For now, Stidham has to worry about this camp and each day of practice. Focus on one day at a time to keep his chances of being the starter possible. I.E. "Do His Job"!!!
