Bill is letting Hoyer compete.

We should all know by now that the Patriots promised Brian Hoyer with an opportunity to compete for a chance to start. Bill Belichick is keeping his word. Friday, although Stidham was injured, instead of letting one of his Co-starters take all the reps, he split them with Hoyer. 

Hoyer may have been shipped off a couple of times but he knows the Patriots system better than any other quarterback not named Tom Brady. That is why the Patriots repeatedly bring him back. He showed that he can win in both Houston and Cleveland producing a 15-10 record. 

San Francisco was a mess when he was there and bill still wanted him. Reich's Colts are still a work in progress, Hoyer played in 4 games but only started 1 for the for Jim Kelly's backup. Belichick knows Hoyer is good enough for the team to win with.

Bill spoke about his quarterbacks, “It’s a good group and we haven’t had a lot of competitive opportunities. We really haven’t had any, but that will start in the next couple of days once we get into padded practices and so forth.”

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler spoke about Hoyer,

“For all the talk of Cam Newton and Jarrett Stidham, I'm being told that Brian Hoyer is being given a fair chance at the starting job, which is what he wanted. Nobody knows the offense better than him right now. He feels that he's right in this. Don't be surprised if the Patriots continue to evenly divide with Stidham and Newton, but Hoyer is the bridge option for them.”

Hoyer is a game manager. The NFL has seen game managers keep teams alive in between quarterbacks. The NFL has also seen game managers win Superbowls. Belichick knows the value Hoyer brings, anyone who doesn't need to listen to the players and coaches talk about Hoyer before and after superbowl 53.
