Giardi tweeted, "Back to football: #Patriots still have 3 QBs who aren't playing like they're the solution. Newton's confidence is growing but it's still moving too fast for him once the ball is snapped. Stidham throws it better than the other 2 but he missed time and his accuracy still spotty."
Hoyer has been consistently a game manager. His accuracy is only around 60%. His big plays are gonna be few and in between and he's only gonna do just enough.
Newton admitted he's not playing like a starter and has a lot to learn. He's throwing the ball too hard and overthrowing pass catchers. Newton is completing between 58% to 70% of his passes on any given day.
Stidham's been accurate Tuesday and Wednesday but that was during the 7 on 7s. He's fluctuating between 60% to 80% completion percentage this camp. The fact that his throwing Mechanics are off due to injury isn't helping his cause.
Giardi continued "The lack of consistency is a little...I dunno...concerning? I didn't expect assimilation would be easy. Hell, far from it, but there are throws to be made that aren't being made with regularity."
The quarterbacks are playing against some of the best secondary players in the NFL but these quarterbacks are also getting beat by linebackers. Hoyer especially in this system should be able to beat linebackers who have dropped into coverage. Giardi is basically saying none of the quarterbacks are looking ready to start in the NFL.
Giardi with, "And yes, I’ve reminded people a number of times that one of Cam’s greatest gifts is his speed/size/power combo platter and we don’t get to see on full display bc no one is trying to tackle him. But he got flushed a few times today and the end results with incompletions."
That's the thing, if Cam cannot it targets while throwing on the run, while men aren't chasing him but leaving him open targets, what's gonna happen when he's got guys coming for him? Newton and Hoyer have been saved this camp by drops from the defense.
Fans questioned Giardi about the Patriots coaches praising Newton. Especially Fisch who said that after for weeks Cam can run the offense. Giardi responded "What did you expect the QB coach to say?"
The same thing that the anti Stidham crowd said about the coaches and players praising him. However, it only makes sense, the coaches would say be the same way publicly with Cam.
Fans are also blaming the receivers but every other day we hear how good the pass catchers are looking. So like with Cam, It could be reporters telling fans what they want to hear or the receivers have actually developed and improved. We honestly don't know.
Look as much as fans want Patriots quarterbacks or just a specific quarterback to do good for the bandwagoners, we have to hold them accountable. While the media's job is to report what they see, sometimes it can be a little biased and they can ignore some of the negative to fit their narratives. So take everything with a grain of salt.
