What are the Patriots going to do with Sony?

With Sony, the Patriots have until next spring to decide If they want Sony Michel's fifth year option, so they'll decide that after the season. I think that as long as Michel shows he can contribute in the passing game and returns to a minimum 4.5 yard average on the ground, they pick it up. I don't see why Michel won't unless the offense implodes.

Sony did pretty well as a rookie in 2018. 2019 he couldn't run to the left behind Newhouse, that killed his average. During both seasons, he was hindered by penalties and a 40+ year old quarterback who didn't want to work with younger guys. Brady costed Michel at least 1 receiving touchdown in 2019. Sony has already moved to 21st on the teams all-time rushing list. The team's 23 all-time leader in rushing touchdowns.

Michel won't receiver a big contract from the Patriots. When his rookie contract expires, I believe they'll want him to transition to that James White roll and extend his career.

There is one other thing, with the Patriots bringing in 29 year old Lamar Miller, that If Sony is put on the pup; he could be traded. It's probably not a high possibility but it is there.
