Cam Newton misses closed camp.

The New England Patriots entered August with a quarterback competition. Then Jarrett Stidham got injured and Cam was able to pull ahead in snaps. Several writers have said Newton looked inaccurate and wasn't making throws on a regular basis.

On Monday Cam Newton had an excused absence. The reason why was unknown to the media. While the Patriots split the reps between the other three quarterbacks, it gave Stidham a day to catch up.

CBS Boston sports writers said this about Newton missing is, "What that means, exactly, remains anyone’s guess. But from the sounds of it, it does not appear to be an injury."

Belichick was asked again to name a starter and gave the media the run around. This could be Bill play a mind game or Bill may not have chosen one. 

It is unclear if Newton will miss camp on Tuesday but Belichick stressed the importance of this week, which makes every snap Stidham took while Newton's away; that much more important.

This was the Patriots first closed session so the reporters were unable to give proper assessment of today's camp.
