Damien Harris is showing off his abilities and may be another duel threat. Harris is showing elusiveness and pretty good hands, making a one handed catch in the goalline area. The defense did end up stopping him in the goalline area.
This is bad for Michel, as he seems to be the only one dimensional back on the team. If Michel is out for eight games, this could be his last season in New England.
Damiere Byrd, Gunner Olszewski, and Devin Ross are out performing Jakobi Meyers in camp. Meyers had a solid connect last year with Stidham but lack of preseason games maybe hindering his production. Meyers says he's gonna keep working and "keep showing that I can do what I need to do to stay on this team.”
This early in camp, Stidham is showing inconsistencies with decision making and Cam Newton is showing he still doesn't have chemistry with his receivers, while Hoyer is being the game manager everyone expects him to be. The quarterback competition wages on with Hoyer making progress lurking in thr shadows. Hoyer is like the tortoise, only question is can the former Spartan beat two Tigers?
Zack Cox of NESN said, "Through two padded practices, it’s difficult to draw any meaningful conclusions about the Patriots’ most important roster battle. To use a McDaniels term, this competition has yet to 'declare itself.' "
Cox also noted that McDaniels pulled Cam aside after he stuggled handing the ball off to Harris.
Jermaine Eluemunor appears to have jumped Yodny Cajuste as the frontrunner for the left tackle position. Eluemunor is a former fifth rounder and was expected to compete for the interior linemen spot.
Lastly, Asiasi is looking like a duel threat in both the receiving and blocking game. This is good and bad early on. If the defense is struggling with Asiasi, how are they going to perform against some of the bigger and better tight ends in the league?
