The Pass catchers aren't the greatest. Sanu is the equivalent of Danny Amendola, that I agree with. Him and Edelman had drops last year but both were also playing in Pain. Both Sanu and Edelman should've been placed on the IR.
Meyers and Harry were rookies with a quarterback who did not want to work with them. That may also of been true of the veteran Slater and Izzo, who before he got concussed was starting to have a good season. The rest of the receivers and Tight ends on the Patriots besides the 2020 rookies are third and forth string developmental talent.
Skip Bayless brought up the Patriots have nothing and that's a slap in the face of the offensive unit. Especially David Andrews, Joe Thuney and that line. It's also an insult to the defense and special teams.
Here's another thing I've noticed from Bayless and other people in the media. They have zero respect for Newton as a passer. Sure Newton can run around and extend plays and drives but take that away and focus on just his passing.
Newton only has a career 59.6 average and look at the consistency around him.
In 2018 Cam's leading receiver was Christian McCaffrey who caught 100+ balls and rushed for 1000+ yards. DJ Moore had just under 800, Funchess Just under 600, and Samuels and Wright Just under 500 each.
In 2017, David Funchess and Mccaffery had 100+ reception season. Funchess had just under 900 yards and Mccaffery just under 700. Benjiman had just under 500 in 8 games and got traded to buffalo. Newton was the lead rusher and they Had Mccaffery and Johnathan Stewart on the team.
In 2016 Stewart finished just shy of 1000 yards on the ground. Olsen had over 1000 yards, Benjamin had over 900 and Ginn over 800.
We know that in 2015 Cam was the MVP, Olsen caught 1000 and Stewart ran for just shy of that mark. In 2014 Cam had two 1000 yard receivers. For the most part the Panthers offense stats look the same every year Cam was under center.
What Skip Bayless and others think is that Cam Newton even with his legs as a Passer does not elevate the players around him. There's the offensive line arguement and that might contribute to Cam's completion percentage issues. Cam is supposedly taken something off the ball now. That in year 10, he's learned to throw touch passes and going to become accurate.
Pretty sure Skip and others are not buying that. Now Skip may think Matt Cassel was a better quarterback than Cam, He's not.Brian Hoyer is better than Cassel and at his worst, Cam is Hoyer with legs.
As much as the Cam Newton base wants to argue, Cam is proven to be inconsistent, three winning seasons out of eight. Three seasons over 60% competitions out of eight. He's also proven to be a guy who turns the ball over 108 INTs, 52 fumbles regardless if all were losses.
So it's possible that Cam Newton will only win five or six games. This is the NFL, anything is possible. If compared Brady's 2019 and Newton's 2018 are nearly the same.
Regardless of who's under center, the Patriots will win no less than seven games. Even after the opt outs, the Patriots were winning ten games with Stidham or Hoyer and that hasn't changed with Cam.
Stidham's ceiling was eleven wins and with Cam it's fourteen. Not because of ability but because of experience. Although with Hoyer, Newton's legs do come into play but still.
Think about this. Hoyer is equal to or better than Trent Dilfer, Baltimore won a ring despite Dilfer and the Patriots can do the same with Hoyer. At his worst Newton is Hoyer with legs. So unlike Skip Bayless and others, Cam could play bad and still lead the Patriots not only to the playoffs but the Superbowl.
Stidham is capable of leading the Patriots to the playoffs and if he continues to play well no reason to think the guy who beat Hoyer out of his job in 2019 couldn't do the same.
The media is still disrespecting the Patriots offense regardless of the position and in some cases the defense too. We know what's going to be pasted inside every locker and we know what happens when the Patriots are underdogs. The race to seven is on just as much as it was last year.
