Nick Wright said that Cam Newton is the perfect guy to replace Tom Brady because "he believes he is that guy." Wright basically says Cam Newton has the ego and personality to replace Brady and that the scrutiny is not going to get some. DPN's Ray Rauth and Conor C. Seem to agree.
There's nothing wrong with Cam Newton thinking he can return to 2015 MVP form. However, with Newton's ego and this is my inference from listening to Cam, He believes he's better than Brady. As a pure athlete he's right. Strictly as a passer he's not.
I could be wrong but Newton appears to believe that if he played his career in New England, that he would have equaled or surpassed Brady's success. Now we want Newton to be confident, however as fans; we don't want arrogance. Especially towards Brady.
There are those who are going to say but Newton never said straight out that he was better than Brady. However, his remarks have left people to infer that, that that's what he was implying.
We want Newton to be confident but at the same time humble enough to respect the Goat. Maybe in Newton's mind and in the mind of his supporters, he is being humble by not directly saying it but instead implying it. However, for the rest of us, it doesn't excite us; it insults us.
There's going to be division about this. Once the season starts or even in a few years after depending in how long Newton is a patriot, this will get squashed for the most part. Sure there will be Brady fans who continue the arguement but the true fans will get over it.
But as far as replacing Brady, Nick Wright maybe right, even if the fan base is split over whether or not it's a good thing. Let's just hope there's a season and we can move on past this.
