Patriots considered signing Clay Matthews

The Patriots are rumored to of wanted to bring in a big name defense player. Which meant bringing a talented veteran with experience. According to Clutch Points' Chris Guest, that big name was Clay Matthews.

"Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler in Hartwell’s story, there was league-wide speculation that the Pats would sign veteran pass-rusher Clay Matthews before the 2020 NFL Draft. Instead, the team opted to trade up to select Josh Uche out of Michigan at No. 60 overall, who had studied the Patriots defense while playing for the Wolverines."

It's understandable why the Patriots would want to bring in Matthews. They lost three really good linebackers in Collins, Van Noy, and Roberts. Matthews can sniff out the ball and get after opposing quarterbacks.

Matthews has had a pretty decorated career, most of it in Green Bay but it looks like it could be coming to an end. If he wants to revive his career, the Patriots are the best spot for him. The Patriots currently don't have the room, so If Matthews was brought in, it wouldn't be until mid August.

For now the best thing Matthews can do is train and make sure he's healthy. Someone is going to need his services before the end of the 2020 season. As a fan, hopefully it's sooner than later.
