"Former exec reveals Colin Kaepernick’s career ended because ‘he was bad for business' " according to Skyler Carlin of Clutch Points.
According to the NFL’s former vice president of communications and CNN political analyst, Kaepernick is being blackballed by the NFL. Majority of fans knew this but it's still nice to hear it out of the horses mouth.
Joe Lockhart wrote “for many owners it always came back to the same thing, Signing Kaepernick, they thought, was bad for business. An executive from one team that considered signing Kaepernick told me the team projected losing 20% of their season ticket holders if they did. That was a business risk no team was willing to take, whether the owner was a Trump supporter or a bleeding-heart liberal (yes, those do exist). As bad of an image problem it presented for the league and the game, no owner was willing to put the business at risk over this issue.”
Kaepernick has been protesting injustice committed against African Americans, who have been losing their lives at the hands of law enforcement. Kaepernick started kneeling at the request of former Green Beret and war veteran Nate Boyer asked him to instead of sitting on the bench. Boyer has explained why and I encourage readers to go research why.
Kaepernick requested release from his 49ers contract and has not been signed since.
Colin's last year, he had a record of 1-10. His last three seasons in the league he went 11-24. Over that time Kaepernick threw 42 touchdowns and 19 interceptions, throwing 16 Touchdowns and 4 interceptions his last year. In his final season, Kaep completed 59.2% of his passes for 2241 yards. That year he also rushed for 468 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Kaepernick is 32 and is not getting any younger. Last season there was a workout planned for Kaepernick to show teams his abilities. For some reason, the controversial quarterback changed locations. While he had gave reasons, for many fans it was a sign that he didn't want to play. Turning supporters off, even thought those fans still supported his protest.
With the death of George Floyd, people are calling for teams to resign the quarterback. While I think Kaepernick should hold a back up position in the league right now, only certain teams does he fit the scheme for and to put him on a team means terminating another employee.
NFL teams must be careful as this could lead to a wrongful termination suit, by a player fired solely so a team can hire Kaepernick, not because he's better or more qualified but because the league is trying to buy reputation. It's a sticky situation the NFL has gotten itself in.
