Bill Belichick reveals why the Patriots didn't draft a wide receiver

The Patriots were expected to go after a top tier receiver after the 2019 saw all but Edelman perform like busts. However the Patriots chose not to do so and their depth chart doesn't look any better.

Belichick basically said this is how he's building the roster and that he was going with the guys he has.

Belichick had this to say when questioned about the draft. “I’m sure all our young players will improve in year two. Got a first-round pick on N’Keal last year, second round pick on [Mohamed] Sanu. That was really off this draft, Obviously have Julian [Edelman] and a number of other young players. I think that will be a very good group. There’s a lot of different ways and times to build your team. The draft is one of them. As I mentioned, whether it’s Sanu or free agents signing like [Damiere] Byrd, whatever the case might be, there’s multiple ways to build your roster, and this is one of them.”

While the Patriots did not draft receivers, they did sign a few. Damiere Byrd, Will Hastings, Isaiah Zuber, Sean Riley, and Jeff Thomas are all coming in with the opportunity to make the roster. Stidham's familiarity with Hastings should give him the early advantage.

With Edelman only having two seasons left under contract, it surprised many that with twelve picks that Bill wouldn't use a sixth or seventh round pick on a receiver, instead of waiting to sign them via free agency.

The one thing to remember is although the Patriots did not draft a receiver, they did draft two pass catchers. Devin Asiasi and Dalton  Keene should help the Patriots passing attack.

"Then again, it is more than possible the Patriots get steadier production from the likes of Harry and Sanu, which can only have a positive impact on the offensive unit." According to Marty Fenn of Clutch Point.

After twenty years, when will people stop questioning Bill Belichick. The guy has put together the greatest tenure for a head coach and yet people still need to be taught the phrase, "In Bill We Trust!"
