The Patriots are clearly trying to build depth at the position. Meyers, and Olszewski have the inside track to the roster but the will hold a competition to make sure the best players make the team. The Patriots may want to add some players.
The Patriots signed Austin Carr, who had an amazing preseason in 2017 before being stolen by the Saints. Carr is now 26 and the Saints have let Carr go. Carr is versatile and can be used all over the field. He's 6' 200 LBS. Why Carr though? "His experience — even if it is in a limited capacity." At least according to Justin Trombino.
Carr brings excitement and has a hell of a vertical for an average height. He is quick and fast , which make him deadly. Add to that Bill wanted to keep him. He's a good fit.
Jordan Matthews, another former Patriot is also looking to be plucked from free agency.
Matthews had a solid start to his career before injuries brought his value down. Teams tossed him around like a pigskin last year, which hindered his production.
Matthews who now should be healthy. Should be able to return to his near number 1 pass catcher levels. I mean a guy who catches 19 touchdowns and just shy of 2700 yards in three seasons, is nothing to ignore.
Belichick found both guys worth signing at one point. Sometimes the second time around is the charm. The only thing that could make signing either of these two an issue, is the teams limited salary cap. Something Belichick could figure out if needed
