NFL 2020 Schedule Release Could Be Pushed Back From May 9th

The NFL was forced to delay the 2020 schedule due to the covid-19 virus. The league set the date of release on the 2020 schedule for the second week of May but are considering a second delay.

According to Sports Business Daily‘s Ben Fische “The league currently is debating whether to further postpone the schedule release, which usually comes out before the draft. Currently, broadcasters expect to the schedule to be released on Thursday, May 7. Some inside the league office, along with ‘ticket industry insiders,’ are arguing against it, explaining that committing to game times (and selling tickets to those games) without more clarity about whether the 2020 season can proceed with fans present would amount to ‘inviting trouble.’

The league is preparing for a late start due to the coronavirus and is already having issues with vendors over ticket sales.

"Ticket companies are clearly looking for more insurance before following through on something that may not be able to come to fruition for quite some time..." Per Maximo Gonzales

The commissioner has some work to do if he wants to get the season to start on time but it's looking highly improbable due to the coronavirus, with "preparing to have Super Bowl LV pushed back a couple weeks in February."
