Belichick signs "Mr. All Purpose Yards" from Syracuse.

The Orangemen though Belichick could use some juice with his hoodie, so they made Sean Riley available for pick up in aisle one.

Riley started as an outside guy but finished his career in the slot. Riley's production fell because the offensive line thought they were Marshall Newhouse and couldn't protect Syracuse quarterbacks.

Riley missed his pro day due to cancellation but got to make it up according to Stephen Bailey of Syracuse.com

"However, an invitation to the College Gridiron Showcase in Dallas provided Riley an opportunity to impress NFL scouts. That became even more valuable after the coronavirus pandemic led to Syracuse’s annual pro day being canceled."

Riley said “I couldn’t wait to hear what they had to say because after the offensive season we had, it was kind of up in the air, I wanted to see what they were thinking of me, but after the first few days, talking with some teams, they thought I was really versatile. They wanted to see if i could play outside receiver as well. They were basically all showing love.”

According to Bailey, Riley claimed he tested very well, Almost too well.

"He said he ran a 3.99-second short shuttle and 6.41-second L-drill during the workout, both of which would’ve led all receivers at the NFL Scouting Combine. Riley also said he clocked a personal-best 4.42-second 40-yard dash, which would’ve tied for seventh..." "Riley leaves Central New York third all-time in program history with 4,358 all-purpose yards."

So what kinda production did the Orangemen turned Patriot produce?

In 48 games he caught 119 balls for 1265 yards and 4 touchdowns, averaging 10.6 yards per catch. He also carried the ball 15 times for 97 yards.

Riley averaged 21.2 on 115 Kick returns and 11.3 yards average and 1 touchdown on 50 punt returns. Versatility that will help him battle for a spot on the roster.

Riley is currently on a 3 year contract with little guaranteed, so he will have to put on extra work in, if he wants a career in the NFL.
