Jakobi Meyers poised to make impact in 2020

The Patriots signed Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski to three year deals in 2019. While Meyers' had the better rookie season, both have an advantage over the new receiving core members due to familiarity with the playbook.

"Meyers’ 63.4 percent catch rate is the sixth-highest for any rookie during the Belichick coaching era in New England," according to Justin Trombino of Musket Fire.

Meyers told NESN "(I want to be) not just somebody who can step up when you need him, but somebody who they depend on. I want to come in and show them that I can make it through a full season knowing my job, being the smartest player in the room, and at the same time, still make plays. This offseason, I just feel like it’s going to be big for me. Now I’m not coming in with my eyes closed. I actually know what I’ve got to do.”

Meyers had set a lofty goal for himself but does he have the ability to achieve it. Edelman is the Man and to be the man, you gotta beat the man. To leap from Edelman would be an impressive feat for the receiver in his second season.

Meyers will be competing against Jeff Thomas, Will Hastings, and Sean Riley. They have also brought in several free agent wide receivers: Quincy Adeboyejo, Damiere Byrd, Marqise Lee, and Devin Ross. Along with Olszewski and Sanu, who had mediocre seasons in 2019.

Meyers had an impressive battle with Harry and Dorsett for the number three spot on the depth chart. The fact that he's still around while the former number one is in seattle, speaks volumes at Meyers' success as a rookie.

Meyers cannot let up, he has to keep going full throttle. Meyers at the moment has had a better career than Harry. Meyers can leap from the 2019 first pick with a solid pre season.

At the moment. Meyers joins Edelman as thee only reliable pass catching receivers returning in 2020. If Meyers doesn't fall into the dreaded sophomore slump, he could be have outside chance at his first pro bowl.
