RG3 Wants To Start And I May Have The Perfect Location.

The 30 year old, Heisman trophy winning, former first round,  journeyman quarterback Robert Griffin the 3rd, more famously known as RG3 wants a starting opportunity and he has earned it.

Joseph Nocco of clutch point orginally broke the story in his article "Robert Griffin III still wants to be a starter in the NFL again". Nocco shared a radio interview that RG3 had.

“My goal is to get back to that,” Griffin recently said on “The Zach Gelb Show,” per Tim Kelly of Radio.com. “I know that Lamar is the guy in Baltimore, but that doesn’t extinguish my fire to go out and want to be a starter. And not just be a starter, be a franchise player. I’m not in this to play for another four or five years as a backup. That’s not what I’m about.”

Griffin may call it a career or head to canada, if he cannot get an opportunity to start. While Griffin stayed respectful of his current team and teammate, one can hear that he's ready for a new home.

The former first round quarterback had a promising rookie season, however, it ended badly. RG3's career was never the same after a near career ending knee injury ended his rookie campaign. There was rumors that RG3 was afraid to get hit, along with a quarterback competition that saw RG3 eventually pushed out of washington.

His former coach Shanahan said the following about RG3. "I was really disappointed," former @Redskins HC Mike Shanahan said of RGIII. "He really believed he was Aaron Rodgers."

Shanahan continued, "To be honest with you, with a guy like Dan (Dan Snyder), he really believed Robert had all those things, all the tools. ... You can see why an owner or dad or mother says, 'Hey, don’t get my son hit.' I understand that, but one thing you have to learn if you do run a read-option, the quarterback cannot get hit. He has to slide, give the ball off, pitch it. ... If you do run, never take a hit. And that's what Russell Wilson has done throughout his career. He's the best at it. Deshaun Watson, he's doing unbelievable, doing the same thing: sliding, throwing the ball away, being able to throw on the run."

Shanahan clearly blames RG3 for his decline in washington. RG3 is now on his fourth team and is ready for his fifth and hopefully final team. In 2019 Griffin posted decent stats for his limited opportunities. Completing 60.5% of his passes for 225 yards, with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. He also had 70 yards on 20 carries. Showing he's definitely more than willing to take a hit.

Robert Griffin is on the final year of his contract and is slated to make $2.5 million for 2020. While it's doubtful the Ravens would release him, the 30 year old quarterback could probably be acquired for a day 3 pick, probably a 4th rounder or a player of equivalent.

One team I could see making this move in late July is the Patriots. The Patriots currently have sophomore Jarrett Stidham and veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer. Griffin is in his last year of his contract, and Belichick has a history of getting these kind of players and turning them into stars. He has first round talent and experience to boot. This would be a good challenge for Jarrett Stidham. If it doesn't work, the Patriots just let him go in 2021 and if it does work the Patriots will have the cap room to sign him long term.
