Is Belichick using the rope a dope with Hoyer and Stidham.

All offseason long, the Talk has been that the Patriots planned on starting Jarrett Stidham. Although they have praised him, nobody in the organization has confirmed that. It's all speculation.
What we know is that the Patriots signed Brian Hoyer to a contract with the chance to compete for the starting job. That Hoyer has experience starting and was the key reason the Patriots shutdown the Rams high powered offense in superbowl 53. We also know the Patriots wanted a second year to develop Stidham.

While it is rumored that all four quarterbacks on the roster are going to have a battle for the starting job, nobody believes that.

What if there really isn't a competition? The Patriots like experienced players. So what if going into the 2020 season, Brian Hoyer is the starter?

Hoyer is ready to come out and start week one. Stidham will have to prove he's ready but at the moment, nobody can say that with certainty that he's ready. Mike Giardi basically agrees with me, echoing the same thoughts on WEEI.

“So I think it’s going to be incumbent upon him to beat out whoever the other quarterback is, whether it is Brian Hoyer or (hypothetically) they make a commitment to Cam Newton. Although I would say if Cam Newton is in here they probably feel good about his health and he’s probably going to be the starter.”

I like both Hoyer and Stidham. Stidham, I do have faith in and won't rule him out until after the 2021 season as the Patriots future.

Hoyer on the other hand, has never had a good situation as a starter. Hoyer's best year as a starter was his second year in Cleveland where he went 7-6 as a starter, pulling the Browns out of the dumpster.

Normally when one has a team trending in the right direction, one gets rewarded. That's not the case in Cleveland, where Hoyer was sent off to the Texans as a punishment for his success.

I want to see what Hoyer can do with a competent head coach and coaching staff. Hoyer has never been the man in New England. He is an intelligent game manager, who doesn't make a lot of mistakes. He could still teach Stidham a thing or two and possibly lead the Patriots back to the post season.

I don't know what's to come this year but the one thing I am positive of, regadless of whomever wins the starting job; the Patriots are tanking for Trevor. Not now and not ever.
