In his latest article, Mike Schmidt of clutch point is reporting that the Browns are actively trying to trade down from their number 10 pick to acquire more picks.
Schmidt sites Peter King of NBC as his source. Schmidt writes "King mentions a possibility where the Miami Dolphins could trade up from No. 18 due to the Dolphins’ major need at offensive tackle. Given the amount of assets Miami has, it certainly seems like a potential match."
While that's all fine and good, The New England Patriots currently have twelve picks of their own. It's not like the Patriots don't have the ammunition to pull the trigger on a trade. Joe Thuney, Rex Burkhead, and Mahmoud Sanu are just three of several trade options that could be added to sweeten a trade deal. The Patriots have four picks in the top one hundred and five picks of value. The Patriots currently have the 23rd, 87th, 98th, 100th, and 125th pick.
The New England Patriots have many needs, especially quarterback and have been linked to Justin Herbert of Oregon, Jordan Love of Utah State, and Nick Saban's quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa from the Crimson Tide.
Cleveland is coming off a six win season that saw the team take an axe to both coach Freddy Kitchens and general manager John Dorsey after fielding one of the best rosters on paper. Afterward, The New England Patriots almost even lost their long time offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to the Browns.
"Kitchens and Dorsey were replaced by Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry, respectively." Says Schmidt. However, Schmidt leaves out that owners Jim and Dee Haslam have the team answering to an analytical department. That is the one things that is believed to be why McDaniels is still part of Patriots organization.
Belichick or any team wanting to make a trade with the Browns, should just call the Cleveland analytics department directly and save themselves time. The Patriots now know of atleast one team willing to make a move, if they want to make a run at a premium quarterback. It's now just about waiting and seeing where players fall.
Oh, and one more thing to all the fans and sports writers out there, including Mike Luciano of 12up.com. Trading Gilmore or Hightower is not an option. Get the thoughts out of your mind. While the team needs a quarterback, it's not worth the risk destroying the future of the franchise to get one.
