There's a quarterback competition in New England. The main question asked is who's going to start. Few weeks ago I said Cam had an 80% chance to win, Followed by Stidham at 15, Hoyer at 4, and the Two undrafted rookies at .5% chance. J'Mar Smith is gone so that half point goes to Stidham.
No offense to Brian Hoyer but unless Cam Newton goes down, he will not earn the position because at his worst, Newton Is Hoyer with a set of legs. Hoyer is a better quarterback as a Patriot, than anywhere else he has played. He's just never been given a chance to start for Belichick. Hoyer will be the team's third quarterback this season, at least early on.
Cam Newton has the experience and it came out early in the offseason that Belichick wanted an extra year to develop Stidham behind Brady. If Newton can learn the playbook before Sept arrives. The Job is likely his to lose for this season, although, I would keep the competition going until week five.
Start Stidham weeks one and three against Miami and Oakland. Newton would start weeks two and four against Seattle and Kansas City. But... Since I don't think Belichick is willing to do that, Belichick will Start Newton against Miami but may bring Stidham in on situational packages to continue his development, kinda like Bill Walsh did with Joe Montana. However, Belichick isn't a conventional coach.
