Patriots quarterbacks need to focus on football and not the competition.

The Patriots quarterbacks were back at it again today and One quarterback stood out. Yesterday I said that if Stidham continued to make mistakes and if Newton's experience would show up, he could walk away with the job, even though he's the less accurate quarterback. On Thursday, it looks like that's what happened.

Newton would go 10 of 17 on the day. Hoyer who's been sneaking along went 6 of 15, while Stidham went 2 of 6, throwing two more INTs.

What made Newton the winner on the day wasn't a flashy throw. It wasn't his arm strength or anything special. It was what he didn't do. He protected the football and made smart decisions, This Cam can win the competition due to the other two beating themselves.

Hoyer definitely is now feeling the pressure of the quarterback competition as Stidham and Newton were named co-starters. Hoyer is normally a safe thrower, today he was under and over throwing the ball, trying to force things.

Stidham also had a bad day under and over throwing his targets. His accuracy was just off on the day. Stidham walked into today's practice completing 73% of his passes. Stidham was punished for his interceptions and was not allowed to throw a pass on the 7 on 7 drills.

For those keeping track of attempts
Stidham  is 29 of 43 with 7 INTs
Newton  is 34 of 50 with 2 INTs
Hoyer is 29 of 52 with zero INTs.

Although Newton had a decent day, Jedd Fisch needs to talk with his quarterbacks and let them know to ignore the competition and to just do their job and have fun. Right now it's like the quarterbacks feel like they have to make specific throws and have to outshine the others. All three are seemingly guilty.

Belichick mentioned fundamentals this week and that starts with the quarterbacks focus. They cannot be worrying about who is going to start. They need to focus on playing mistake free and letting their play talk for them. Not trying to one up the next guy.

Especially Hoyer, who prior to today was in a good position to let the other two beat themselves. Consistancy is gonna be the key, so far this has been a roller coaster for all three of the quarterbacks. If I'm Belichick, I would let Lewerke get a few snaps in early at the next practice, to get in the minds of the quarterbacks that if they can't focus on their assignments; all three could be off the team.
