Click Bait Media trying to twist Stidham's Statement.

I was asked to cover this story after reports were coming out from multiple sources that Stidham still believes he could start. This was all based on his latest press conference. So I looked into it, looked at several articles and now I will answer the request.

When Tom Brady left, Jarrett Stidham was the frontrunner. Even with Hoyer on the roster. Stidham beat Hoyer out last season and expected to do it again. Newton was signed and Stidham walked into camp believing he could start. So now that Stidham is back from injury what does he think, is there still a competition and does he think he can start?

Stidham said "How I view things is everyday is a competition. Whether I'm first string, second string, third string, fourth string -- I don't view it as that. I just view it as a great opportunity to get better with my teammates every single day and compete really hard. I look at it as competing against myself, too, and trying to learn and grow every single day to help myself get better each day I go out on the field."

The media pushed on trying to create their narrative, wanting to know if he believes he'll start.

Stidham replied, “My goal, like I said earlier, has always stayed the same. Whether that be here at the end of training camp kind of leading into the season, or whether it be throughout the season, or whatever it may be, is really just to learn and get better. I’m only in my second year. There’s a ton of room for me to grow. A lot of room to improve and learn in a lot of different areas.

That’s kind of my big thing. I just want to continue to learn from the guys in the quarterback room, whether it be Cam (Newton), or (Brian Hoyer), or Jedd (Fisch), or Josh (McDaniels), or whoever it may be – just continue to learn from those guys and really try to help myself get better and really excel on the field every day.”

Look does Stidham believe he will start week one? He doesn't say that. Stidham did believe he could win the quarterback competition and he probably still does. However, if you listen to him; his goal is to get better. That's his desire.

The media, mainly Chat Sports, NBC, and USA Today are trying to twist what Stidham said to fill their narrative, even going as far as to combine it with Newton saying he "doesn't feel like the starter."

Every quarterback outside Lewerke Should have faith that they could walk into week 1 the starter. At the same time, they should be humble enough to self evaluate and know where they're at.

I wrote an article earlier. Apparently Mike Giardi doesn't think the quarterback play this August has been worthy of a starting job in New England. I wrote than that perhaps the media was trying to ignore or leave out everything in camp to sell their narrative.

With the case of still Stidham believing he can start, still believing he can win the competition; I do think Newton is leaving the door open to be challenged and we should want him to believe it. However, one can read what Stidham said, and what he says is "He's in competition, mainly with himself." That it. No where does he say anything about winning.

This narrative is click bait and those companies should be ashamed but that's how they get paid. You click on their link and stay long enough for their advertisers to be seen. Welcome to the 21st century.
