Cam Newton has the ability but won't take the Patriots to the Playoffs according to Joe Montana.

Joe Montana is possibly the second greatest quarterback to ever play the game. One of the brightest offensive minds in football and admittedly one of the worst people to sit behind the desk of the NBC NFL pregame and halftime show.

Montana went from San Francisco where he won four superbowls, to Kansas City where he came just shy of a Superbowl. Montana is well respected around the NFL, so when he speaks; people listen.

Montana said Tom Brady is replacing a string of nobodies, so there's no pressure but CaM Newton is replacing a six time Superbowl champion. Montana doesn't know If Newton can make the playoffs in 2020.

Montana said, “I think they are hoping that that takes place. Two different style quarterbacks. He [Newton] definitely has the ability to play at that level. We’ll just see if he can make that transition. Moving to another team is not always easy.”

We have heard people say that The Patriots are a better team with Brady but wont have as high of a ceiling as 2019. So nobody should be to butthurt about that statement.

Montana also said Cam has to win and maintain the respect of the locker room, “Even when I go into Kansas City there is still a certain acceptance factor that has to happen and you have to go in there and prove you can still do the things that you did when people were watching you. Once that happens it becomes a little bit easier at that position. I don’t think Tom [Brady] will have that issue, but Cam may.”

Again expectations of the play of the position by the guy replacing the guy. It's not the media or the fans that Newton has to win over. It's coaching staff, it's the other 52 men in uniform.

I'm a be honest, it's the downside of Cam Newton that turns me off on him. It's knowing that he's proven inconsistent and that at his worst he's Brian Hoyer with legs. Granted, I don't know what Stidham has on an NFL level outside of last preseason which doesn't count. I also believe if Baltimore can win a ring despite Trent Dilfer, the Patriots can win one in 2020 with Hoyer. Which means they can win with Cam.

However, If Newton wins the job, that means Bill trusts him. Cam's contract at the moment, say Bill doesn't and Cam needs to prove himself. I trust Belichick to do what's best for the team. I may not always understand it but Bill knows more about football than 99% of the fan base.
