Patriots: Will Belichick and McDaniels have Newton and Stidham play other positions?

The Patriots have Jarrett Stidham, a 6'3" 216 pound quarterback who started as a high school receiver who changed positions into a five star high school quarterback. The Patriots also Cam Newton, a 6'5" 245 pound athletic quarterback who is built like a H-back tight end.

Over the past few weeks, I have mentioned about the Idea of having these two former Tigers line up in other positions besides quarterback. Having Stidham play receiver, while Newton plays running back. An ESPN analyst suggests that Cam Newton lineup as a tight end because it gives the Patriots options.

ESPN's Barnwell said, "Think about this offense. Think about what they do. They've really sort of built themselves upon the ability to take advantage of what you put out there on defense ... Bringing in Cam Newton, what you have is, when you spread the ball out, he can be an effective power runner between the tackles. (And then) when you have two tight ends, they bring in a fullback, two running backs, Cam's a great play-action passer and a guy who can make you pay (by) taking shots downfield. He gives them that sort of uncertainty that they had with Gronk."

Even with the additions of the two third round tight ends, Barnwell thinks it's the lack of a strong athletic tight end that hurts the Patriots and suggests Newton's contract gives them flexibility with how they use him.

"I think it makes sense for them to do that. No. 1, they don't have to worry about Cam's future. Cam's signed to a one-year contract with them. So if you want to run Cam 150 times, you don't have to worry about the future. You can just run him into the line and see what happens."

Cam is a top 16 quarterback, who has shown he can be a top 10. While I like the idea of Newton and Stidham playing out of position. Cam Newton will not take a permanent role in any other position and it will lead to problems. However, if the two tigers are used right; the Patriots could have a very dangerous offense.
