Battle for Patriots right tackle position is being "Eluemunated"

When Marcus Cannon opted out of the 2020 season, it decimated Patriots Nation and left a huge hole on the Patriots offensive line at right tackle. The question emerged, who would start at that position.

Ideas came out about the Patriots signing a tackle or even moving Joe Thuney from left guard. 2019 third round pick and reported draft steal Yodny Cajuste was expected to earn the spot. However, that might not be the case.

Former fifth round pick Eluemunor has been having a stellar camp. So much so that NESN's Zack Cox wrote, "offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor appears to have the inside track on the starting right tackle spot..."

Eluemunor was expected to compete for one of the two depth interior offensive line spots. The main concern about him playing tackle will be that he is built like a guard.

Jermaine spoke with reporters after today's practice, “I’ve played a ton of positions in my entire three-year career in the NFL, from left tackle to left guard, right tackle, right guard, So I’m familiar with all four of those positions.”

If he can win the starting right tackle spot this season, the Patriots will have won the trade with the Ravens. For now the guard must continue to fend off the tackles who are not going to give up their spot without a fight.
