Jerry Trotta of Musket Fire suggests Laquon Treadwell as one of three players the Patriots should sign. Treadwell is young and a former first round pick, who has shown plenty of ability worth making him a development case. Trotta is right, he could be worth adding.
Now here's where I have an issue with Trotta. He suggests that race is what would keep him from being signed by the Patriots.
Trotta wrote, "We’re not saying he would be a lock to carve out a role in New England, but he has to be motivated to remove the dreaded “b” word from his resume, right?..."
Ok, lets look at what the Patriots have at receiver. Edelman and Gunner Olszewski both caucasian. Byrd, N'Keal Harry, Jakobi Meyers, and emergency receiver and special team's captain Matthew Slater; all African American.
Year after year the Patriots rotate from the caucasians and two African Americans, to three African American and two caucasians; rarely counting Slater who is technically a receiver. When the Patriots went with Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola, and Julian Edelman in 2016 and only had Slater, Michael Floyd, and Malcolm Mitchell that the racism started. (The Patriots were built around their 4 tight ends that year, who were equally split)
Look at their draft going back to 2010 when they really started needed to address the position and were trying to get the best players out of college. 2010: Taylor Price. 2012: Jeremy Ebert. 2013: Josh Boyce, Aaron Dobson. 2014: Jeremy Gallon. 2016: Malcolm Mitchell, Devin Lucien. 2018: Braxton Berrios, 2019: N'Keal Harry. Only three of nine were caucasians.
The arguement about the Patriots being racist and not signing "Black" receivers is a dumb arguement, especially after a season having Josh Gordon, AB, DT, Sanu, Jakobi Meyers, Phillip Dorsett and Matthew Slater on the roster.
The real issues for the people that bring it up is one, that the Patriots have caucasians receivers on their roster and two that at least one of those players is a feature player in the offense, with sometimes up to three. It's sick and it's disgusting. It hurts the civil right movement for equality and needs to be ended. Those in the media who make these racism claims where they're unfounded need to be shamed.
