Patriots may give Michel a Snap count

In May Sony Michel had surgery to relieve pain in his right leg, this caused Michel to miss most of the 2020 training camp. On August 26, Michel came off the pup list and reports said he looked good.

Now this is the third camp where Michel has missed substantial time. In 2018 Sony Michel had fluid drained from his knee. In 2019 he had a knee scope. Having so much done at an early age the Patriots may be cautious with the young back.

The Patriots have enough of a running game now that they have Cam Newton that they can have a snap count for Michel versus Miami week one and not miss a beat.

This is not uncommon for teams to do when players haven't spent a lot of time at camp. In 2018, the Patriots gave Josh Gordon a snap count. It's just something teams do. Whether or not Michel needs to take plays off, is up to the coaching staff. The Patriots have Rex Burkhead and James White ready to go, along with undrafted free agent J.J. Taylor.
