“His mechanics are pretty solid, and I’m sure that the decision makers with the organization recognize that. He also looks like he has the mental capacity to handle it. Physically, I think he’s going to be fine. What he needs right now is just snaps under pressure. Just to see if he can compete. But as far as mechanics are concerned, he’s as good as there is out there.”
As we have heard almost every time anything comes out of the organization for both is, they mean it about Cam but what else were they going to say about Stidham. I have the same response, only in this case Tom House is not part of the organization. My response is if you take him at his word about Cam Newton, than you gotta take him at his word about Jarrett Stidham.
Jarrett Stidham was a sophomore in 2020, only sophomores benefit from somethings. A second rookie minicamp, OTAs, fall training camp, and the preseason, just to name a few. Stidham had an injury that hindered his time during august training camp. The rest of the stuff he missed out on. He dealt with almost everything Newton had to deal with minus covid but where Newton missed time from covid, Stidham missed year two of rookie minicamp which is weeks long.
If the Patriots draft a quarterback at pick 96 or on day three, they will have to compete with Stidham for the job. Even if Stidham is on a short leash heading into the season. This offseason, Stidham has to have two offseasons in one. His sophomore and his third year. That doesn't mean he doesn't have to show improvement but it does mean he has extenuating circumstances against him. Circumstances that may allow him to complete his contract or at least be around for the 2022 preseason.
