Belichick has had 19 winning seasons with the New England Patriots as head coach and has made the Playoffs 17 times.
In 2020 the Patriots parted ways with Tom Brady, the hands down greatest quarterback of all time. Facing covid and the most amount of opt outs, Belichick still led his team to a 7-9 record and was a play or two away from finishing with an 11 and 5 record.
There has been a call for Bill Belichick's job since before Tom Brady departed. Some fans were mad at Belichick because Tom Brady was getting paid too little. Other fans were upset at how much attention Belichick was spending on the defense and special0 teams as general manager, while the offense suffered.
Since 2012, Bill Belichick has drafted some good players but has only drafted maybe four Marquis players out of thirty selections. Some of the others may have done okay for the Patriots, including late round picka but anyone who says Belichick drafted more than four elite players in the first three rounds since 2012 is kidding themselves.
That's a decade of failing to get Marquis players from the draft. It's to the point the owner has taken notice. Sure Belichick has done well in free agency but the NFL is not made for teams to be sustained through free agency. Free agency is supplement roster after the draft.
Belichick could be stripped as general manager but unless Robert Kraft acts as a fanboy, Bill Belichick has earned the right to have a few bad seasons. In fact, If he continues to have bad seasons until 2022, nobody can be too upset. Now come 2023, if he's still having bad seasons and players aren't injured or suspended, then fans can get mad at the hoodie.
Until then Belichick is not going anywhere, and spoiled, entitled fans need to go and watch the pre Belichick era and learn what where the Patriots came from and humble themselves.
