Newton fails to convert twice now in gotta have it scenarios and Nordin Shines.

Cam Newton is the starter and Mac Jones is the backup. We get that, so when the game is on the line and the team has to score, Cam Newton should be able to be counted on in a clutch moment. But is that the case?

Earlier in camp, Belichick ran a must convert play from inside the five.  Newton and his pass catcher at best had some miscommunications as the offense failed. On Friday the Patriots ran a two minute drill. Both quarterbacks would get a chance. Mac Jones was able to score with 10 seconds left, finding Jonnu Smith. Newton however looked like he was about to score only to throw an Interception.

Newton has had quite a bit of Interceptions at camp this far, was this be a sign of what's coming during the 2021 season? It's still early so it's hard to say. However, some are starting to ask when Newton's reps are going to pick up if his problems from last year stood from a lack of a full offseason.

Now some will say the practices and offseason to this point don't matter, and that's about 85% true. While it is just practice, I guarantee the players are still under evaluation. If A guy is struggling in an area now, you don't think they're gonna be looking to see of that continues as things ramp up? Of course they are. Both quarterbacks have areas they must improve on heading forward.

The other big thing was Quinn Nordin going perfect on nine or ten kicks. The young kicker hit one almost 60 yards (57) without any issues. From what I have been reading and seeing, the kicker's accuracy is improving with each day of camp. Have the Patriots fixed his accuracy issues? While Nick Folk is still sitting out majority of camps. Nordin has also been used on kickoffs.

While it's the preseason, there is reason for curiosity and excitement. We'll just have to wait and see how things go.

One more note Patriots linebacker McMillan suffered a season ending ACL injury. He was reportedly having a good camp up to this point. Maybe Winovich can get some play at middle linebacker.
