Jake Rill of Bleacher Report Wrote, "This past season, Edelman was limited to six games because of injuries. He had 21 receptions for 315 yards, but most of that production came in a Week 2 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks (eight catches for 179 yards). He's now set to bring a cap hit of $6.1 million in 2021, the final year of his contract with New England."
Normally players in their final years get traded by Bill Belichick while they're still of value. Question is, how much is Edelman worth now? Edelman has missed 21 games since 2015 and played the entire 2019 season with season ending injuries that required surgery after the season.
Belichick could let Edelman play out his contract and retire a Patriot. His experience would be very valuable at mentoring younger pass catchers. Just ask Jakobi Meyers how much it's helped him. However, If there is one team that might wanna trade for Edelman, it's Tampa Bay.
Knowing his injury history and that the Patriots are looking to save money, plus his experience with Brady, Edelman could fetch the Buccaneers fourth round pick as it's basically a fifth round pick. All the negotiating power falls with the other teams at this point. Any other team trading a fourth or better for Edelman is extremely improbable, in fact the same could be said about any team other than Tampa being willing to trade for minitron.
Patriots fans might not wanna hear it after watching Brady win his seventh but just like with the chance that Stidham could potentially be the starter in 2021, Fans must prepare for the possibility that Edelman could be a Buccaneer in 2021.
