In 2019 Folk went 14 of 17 on field goals. He also added 30 of 33 extra point. The Patriots in order to secure the position drafted Justin Rohrwasser in 2020. Experience kicking in the snow was the reason given for why the controversial kicker was drafted.
Rohrwasser kicked 96.3% of his extra points but only 78.6% of his field goals over his college career. Available in the draft was also Jonathan Song from TCU. Song went 98.1 on extra points and Song also went 90.1 on field goals. In his workout trial videos, Song was kicking 60 yard field goals, while Rohrwasser was struggling to make any kicks at Patriots' practice.
Entering the 2021 offseason, the Patriots currently 36 year old Nick Folk who went 26 of 28 on field goals, and Justin Rohrwasser.
The best free agent available following the 2020 season is Song. Which begs the question of does he have serious off field red flags, or did the NFL miss him. There is a racial conspiracy out there concerning the nfl and song. I'm not gonna say anything more on that.
Coming out of the draft this year, the best kicker is Riley Patterson from Memphis. Patterson was successful on 97.6% of his extra points. He went 23 of 25 in 2019. Patterson had a down year in 2020 and finished his career makeing 77.1% of his kicks. Patterson is clutch and a career long 56 yarder.
Most of Patterson misses came in the 40 to 60 range as he went 26 of 41 but stats dont tell everything. Patterson should be a day three selection and although I would rather have the Patriots bring in Song to compete with Folk, Patterson is a better insurance policy over Rohrwasser.
