How much blame is on Cam Newton for N'Keal Harry's lack of production?

"Cam has not played well. Cam has struggled with his mechanics. Cam has never been accurate".

All said by Shannon Sharpe to defend Cam Newton versus comments made by N'Keal Harry's trainer.

Now before someone brings up Cam Newton's completion percentage, just because one throws the ball to someone's bubble doesn't mean they're accurate. Bad ball placement can occasionally result in completions. Newton does not put the ball where it needs to be consistently, instead he puts it in the area of his pass catcher. That hurts production of the guys catching the ball. Thus it hurts the team.

Skip Bayless in defense of Cam Newton "To your point he's always had accuracy issues but he's also had stretches like against Seattle, he have a big game; he almost put up 400 yards."

Cam Newton had a big game against the 32nd pass ranked defense. Cam Newton also had a big game against the 31st pass ranked defense. I know, what about Houston, he lit them up. They're only ranked 24th. Which is one spot from the start of the bottom 8 of 32 pass defenses. So yeah, Newton has played okay at times as a passer, just as long as the team was a basement team. Those are the only 3 games Newton put up respectable passing numbers.

Yes, Cam has played bad. Yes, Harry's production is low this season. The only other thing I will say in defense of Harry is coaches tape has shown on occasion Harry to be open and Newton fail to even realize it.

Which along with Newton's accuracy issues, has hurt Harry's stat line. By how much, nobody knows. Thus Harry is also at fault. That doesn't mean Harry hasn't struggled to get separation. It means when Harry is doing his job, Cam is not. Making the formula of Cam Newton and N'keal Harry a failure thus far.

Newton has only gone over 200 yards passing 3 times this season. Average to me is 200 yards. Average this year, the number 16 and 17 ranked passers are throwing 248-256 yards per game. Below average are ranks 17-24. Newton is sitting at 26th with 181 yards per game. He's in the basement.

I understand the Patriots pass catchers aren't great. If his weapons were a tier better, Newton would still be at best a bellow average passer. Give him a true number one, he might be an average passer.

All the friends that Newton has around the league that are pass catchers are sitting there thinking, "I like that guy but this is business and I gotta think about my future. Playing with him is career suicide, dude can't pass unless he's throwing it deep. Do I really wanna be running full on sprints every play?"

No athlete in football wants to be running full speed on every pass play to try and run 20+ yards down the field on every play to get where the quarterback is accurate. No coach in their right mind wants to have their quarterback sitting that long in the pocket waiting for their guys to get down field. Otherwise we'd see more deep balls in the league.
