Joe Thuney's future With The Patriots Looking Bleak.

Joe Thuney's future in New England uncertain, could be traded writes DJ Siddiqi of Clutch Point.

The New England Patriots tagged Joe Thuney who is arguably one of the best guards in the league. Thuney at 27 is still young and has never missed a game in his four seasons.

Many Patriots fans got excited as it was a sign the team was trending in the right direction. Knowing the Patriots have Thuney, it gives many of Patriots Nation hope for the 2020 season. Fans patiently wait to hear Thuney and the organization have reached a long term deal.

DJ Siddiqi says "According to a report from ESPN’s Mike Reiss, both sides haven’t been close to a contract extension. In fact, Reiss not only states there is no imminent contract extension in place, he also reports that Thuney could be traded. Reiss mentions that a possible trade bears watching during the NFL Draft this upcoming weekend."

“With the Patriots tight against the salary cap (about $1 million in space), and having surprisingly assigned the franchise tag to starting left guard Joe Thuney at the top-of-the-market figure of $14.78 million, Thuney’s future with the franchise bears watching during the draft. If a guard-needy team is willing to deal a second- or high third-rounder to help fill in the Patriots’ draft board, that would have to be something Belichick seriously considers with the knowledge that the sides haven’t been close to an extension. Thuney holds notable leverage because of the high franchise-tag figure.”

Reading what Reiss said, one must feel a little down. For when healthy, the Patriots have one of if not the top offensive line in the NFL, and Patriots Nation has been wanting to see what the running game can do, when all the clogs are working properly.

If a trade were to occur, It would not be surprising to see the Patriots trade Thuney and then pick up a top guard like Netane Muti from Fresno St or Jonah Jackson from the Buckeyes of Ohio State.

The Patriots have 2019 draft steals Yodny Cajuste and Hjalte Froholdt returning from injury. The team also just got "Eluemunated", as they resigned former fifth round pick Jermaine Eluemunor. The team might not need to spend a premium pick on an offensive lineman.

The Patriots could load up on Picks with Thuney. A second and a fifth, or a third and fourth could be a fair Trade. While it's doubtful the Patriots will take a top quarterback, moving Thuney could Bring in a tier 2 talent. Jalen Hurts or as much as it pains me to say it Jacob Eason, could be possible selections if the Team acquires more picks.

All eyes are now on New England, as who they draft might be more important in the Sports world, than who goes number one overall. The Draft starts this Thursday, and could change the NFL landscape.
