Should Patriots give Jadeveon Clowney a Revis-like deal to put defense over the top?

Jadeveon Clowney is still a free agent. Clowney was once considered a top defensive prospect in the NFL. The Patriots have signed big name defenders before but are they interested in Clowney?

Over his 75 game career, Clowney has 8 Forced fumbles and 8 recoveries. He has produced 236 tackles and 80 quarterback hits. 1 Interception and 32 sacks.

The 27 years old is 6'5" 255 lbs and a 3x probowler who should be in the prime of his career. The fact that he is still sitting on free agency means teams have concerns.

Like Cam Newton, Clowney could come to New England on a one year prove it deal. If he's still got it, he could get paid nicely by another team after the season and the Patriots could receive a compensation pick later on. So there is the possibility of a win win.

The Patriots don't have a lot of money at the moment but that could change. This wouldn't be the first time the Patriots have done this.

Greg Bedard of Boston Sports Journal wrote, "Darrelle Revis' signing in 2014 was certainly an example of that. The best corner in the game decided to take shorter term (1 year, $12 million) with the Patriots, to pay off on the field and in his next contract. Revis, as he usually did in his career, won on both counts with a Super Bowl ring, and a three-year, $39-million contract with the Jets in the offseason."

Now I cannot see the Patriots freeing up more than three or four million for Clowney but if he wants to try and win a ring and get paid, a stop in New England might be what his wallet ordered.
