Patriots rewarded cap space

Even though the Patriots no longer employee Tom Brady, a fair chunk of the 2020 salary is being spent on him. The Patriots had less than one million dollars to spend in the salary cap.

On Saturday July 10th, 2020 the Patriots were given money from players no longer on the roster. As they won grievances against Antonio Brown and Aaron Hernandez.

Mike Reiss tweeted on Saturday “With @FieldYates, reporting significant salary-cap news for Patriots: Settlements in compensation grievances with Antonio Brown ($4 million to team) and Aaron Hernandez ($2.55 million to team) have created space for the club. The Patriots' current cap space is $7.79 million.”

The Patriots have been trying to recoup the money from Hernandez since he was arrested for murder almost a decade ago. Brown on the other hand was supposed to be a savior of the franchise in 2019 but couldn't stay out of trouble. The money couldn't of come at a better time.

The Patriots have been linked to Browns tight end Njoku and to former Texan Clowney. With this money, the Patriots could be in the market to acquire one or both.

This by far has to be the worst fear for NFL teams as Belichick has already acquired former NFL MVP Cam Newton, whom if you as Patriots Nation is not only more gifted physically but is the "New Goat" of quarterbacks. Now Belichick has money to add more talent to the roster, wide receiver and defensive tackle are the Patriots biggest needs at the moment.
