Possible Zach Ertz trade

Zach Ertz was on pace for 100 receptions but he also on pace for only 500 yards. The lowest of his career since his rookie season. Eritz only played in 11 games for the Eagles, catching 36 of 72 passes for 335 yards and a touchdown.

Jeremy Fowyler of ESPN tweeted on Saturday about a possiblity of moving Ertz in a "package" deal. Now Ertz has a base salary of near eight million and is in a contract year.

Ertz appears to be in decline but if the Patriots traded for him, having Asiasi and Keene, it's unrealistic that they would still draft a tight end. Ertz is 30, so all the Patriots would be doing is buying time for their 2019 rookies to develop.

Before someone says anything about the Patriots current group of tight ends, go back and look at how many times Izzo was open and the ball was either thrown poorly to him or he was ignored. Izzo's production is just as much a factor of bad quarterback play, as it is his abilities. Izzo wasn't the only tight end ignored.

Going after Ertz is a possibility but the Patriots need to be sure he's worth the risk and cost. If Ertz doesn't bounce back, the Patriots are going to be out a draft pick most likely as what else do they really have to offer Philadelphia. A draft pick that could go towards a rookie.

Also Ryan Izzo is proof when comparing his 2019 and 2020 play that if the Patriots do not improve on their quarterback play, Ertz will have worse stats. It doesn't matter had how good the pass catchers are if they don't have some competent throwing the ball.
