Instead of adding Brian Hoyer to the staff, the Patriots are adding Adam Gase desciple Bo Hardegree. Hardegeree has been around, spending time with New York, Miami, Chicago, and Denver.
The 36 year old is taking a spot some people including this writer thought would be reserved for 2020 third string quarterback Brian Hoyer. It's possible Hoyer doesn't retire but after saying he wants to be in New England, he might have to find a home elsewhere or commute if he plans on playing the 2021 season. Hoyer could still come on as an assistant but the longer it takes him to retire, the less likely that is to happen.
It is unclear how well Hardegeree will do with the Patriots but he is friends with linebacker's coach Mayo and former Jets' coach Adam Gase. So Belichick likely has had good references concerning the newest member of the staff. The biggest concern for Patriots fans will be how well did he on Sam Darnold?
