Because many of us count it as once dynasty counting the two superbowl losses to the Giants, I say the Dynasty started with the 96 superbowl team. When you look at the roster the number of players carried over from one the losing team to the first victory and the short time span, you can see why. Historic is an understatement.
I put a lot of blame on the play calling for the 2019 season but maybe the blame should've been split with Brady not wanting to work with his pass catchers. The other thing that people ignore are the departures and injuries the team faced. What was Belichick to do when Gronk retires late and then his replacement (ASJ) walks away for personal reasons?
The losing the first round bye was a call for concern. It is clear that the offense couldn't get it going. I always wondered why Bill stuck with Marshall Newhouse instead of bringing back Antonio Gates but that's wonder under the bridge. As far as Brady goes, the Bread crumbs were there, before the Stern interview. Brady wanted out. The Patriots also have Jarrett Stidham and $800,000 in cap. Dismantling the team to get a quarterback doesn't help the 2020 Patriots.
That's not a bad Idea. If you go back and look at the reports on Stidham, the reason he fell out of the first round in 2019 had nothing to do with his talent but decline in stats and circumstances at Auburn. Stidham sat behind the Goat for a year and Practiced with the first string offense against a top 5 defense. That's experience most rookies don't get.
The Patriots have twelve draft picks, and I suspect Belichick will Trade down from the number 23, to get the team between 15-21 picks. The Patriots have been developing linebackers. It would not be shocking to see the Patriots spend seven picks to sure up their front seven.
The offense has players returning from Injury. Unlike some in Patriots Nation, I still believe Cajuste and Froholdt are draft steals and will be huge contributors in 2020. If the Patriots could land Muti and either Jonah Jackson or Cushenbury, The Patriots would be set could Trade Thuney if so desired. Then don't ignore the importance of a healthy fullback.
The coaching staff lost Dante Scarnecchia, the defensive line coach, the acting wide receiver coach and the special teams coordinator. It is far from looking like the same. Hopefully the Patriots promote Troy Brown to the role of Receivers' coach. Who's gonna fill the other holes, I don't know. Former wildcat guard and host of DPN Mr. Ray Rauth keeps saying he has big news, maybe he's gonna replace the offensive line guru.
As far as the 2020 offense goes, we cannot call it subpar until after not olny we see what happens in the draft but who gets signed before the preseason. I have been okay with what Mr. Morgan has wrote but would've thought he'd of had that kinda respect for the Patriots front office.
So having a fully healthy returning offensive line apparantly doesn't mean anything to Mr. Morgan. The Patriots could not run behind Marshall Newhouse. To make matters worse, Ted Karras could not pick up the slack of his teammates or needed help in whichever case caused the Interior of the line to be less productive. At worst Andrew's will sit on the bench until ready to start. Bill won't make the mistake of putting him on the pup like he did Wynn. Being able to stand in the pocket or to run to either side of the line is an instant improvement over the 2019 offense.
The Patriots are in a win win, if the offense stays the same, they should be able to stay in games. If they improve the team will be right back on top of the AFC. If they fall, they're gonna be in a position to get Trevor Lawrence or any of the top offensive targets in 2021. If you're not optimistic even no matter the outcome of this season, you really should take a look at the bigger picture.
