Should The Patriots Bring Back Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon has an addiction problem. Although he has always had a lot of potential, he's never fully used it due to suspensions. Josh Gordon found new life with the Patriots in 2018 before stepping away just before a suspension. Gordon would come back to the Patriots before getting traded to seattle and eventually suspended again.

The Patriots are currently having a battle for the number four and five spot on the roster, and none of the receivers fighting for those positions are proven. Gordon has experience but also has a lot of red flags and has yet to be reinstated for the tenth time.

In 2018 with the Patriots Gordon put up respect able numbers. Gordon caught 40 of 68 passes for 720 yards and three scores. Gordon would catch 20 of 36 passes in 2019 for the Patriots, for 287 yards and a touchdown in six games. Once traded to Seattle, he seemingly disappeared during his five games. Only being targeted 11 times, catching a total of 7 passes for 139 yards.

The Patriots have a lot of potential on the roster right now before camp at the position. Gordon brings in experience but with a higher paycheck and a higher set of risks. Colin Cowherd recently talked about availability. If signed, the Patriots cannot count on Gordon to be available when they need him because there's just too much risk of suspension involved.

So if I were the Patriots, I wouldn't touch Gordon with a ten foot pole. Might be alone on this sentiment but I'd rather see Devin Smith make the roster over Josh Gordon. Smith is younger, can line up outside and although there's risk, he has more upside. The Patriots in my opinion have everything they need at the position waiting to be developed on the 90 man roster.
