Football world loses a great mind as Schottenheimer dies at 77.

In 1993, I was thirteen. My father was a 49ers fan and made sure that I knew growing up that Joe Montana was the greatest quarterback in the NFL. Montana had been traded to the Chiefs so of course like with Tom Brady, 49ers fans still tuned in to Watch Joe Cool. Being my father controlled the televison, so did I for the most part.

That's when I learned how good a coach Marty Schottenheimer was. From 93 to 98 Marty would put up a 62-36 record, appearing 4 times in the playoffs but only winning 2 games. Marty built a dominate Chiefs defense led by Derrick Thomas and a respectable offense, revitalizing Marcus Allen's career.

Schottenheimer would go on to coach the Redskins for a season before making the Chargers relevant again. Marty went 47-33 as head coach of the Chargers, building a dominate team but was fired when he failed to advance the team in the playoffs.

Schottenheimer wanted the Bills coaching Job in 2010 but was passed over by the late Ralph Wilson.

In his 21 year career, Marty Schottenheimer won 200 regular season and 5 post season games. Schottenheimer passed away on Monday February 8th, at the age of 77 due to Alzheimers.
