The Patriots should hold off on signing a tight end, for now.

The Patriots have been looking into the tight end market since Matt Lacosse left to find a tight end with experience. Michael DeVito suggests that it didn't work with Ben Watson and that the Patriots should trust their rookies. 

Devito wrote, "Now it seems, they are trying to fish around again for an aging veteran with all kinds of injury issues to somehow fill that void. The simple answer is this, don’t do it. But there they go again in the case of New England’s search for a tight end who can do, well, anything at all."

The Patriots did just draft two tight ends in the third round. That's still pretty high for the Patriots. They also have Ryan Izzo who has gotten to learn from Dwayne Allen, Rob Gronkowski, and Ben Watson. So what Devito Is saying makes sense.

While I'm open for a Matt Lengell return or even for a CJ Conrad signing to help provide help in the backfield as an H-Back to back up Jacob Johnson, the Patriots should save the money unless the tight end unit isn't catching on. 

Both Keene and Asiasi can play all three tight end positions; Inline, H-Back, and move te. The duo combined caught 111 passes for 1587 yards and 14 touchdowns in college. Both were under used.

Not to mention before getting a concussion in week six that saw him get redshirted due to post concussion symptoms, Izzo was on pace for 18 catches for 342 yards and 3 touchdowns. As his chemistry improved, those numbers may have gone up. Izzo definitely needs to work on his blocking.

At this point it wouldn't hurt to tell guys on the free agent market to stay in shape. Which as professionals this close to camp, they already should be and then sign a guy if needed. Walker has a market due to his production recently, so his value is still high. 

As I stated yesterday, this will be a test for the scouting department.
