Patriots: Newton will thrive in New England but will have to earn his spot.

Tom Brady is gone. Tom Brady is no longer a New England Patriot, Tom Brady is a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. It's time to accept reality, the Tom Brady era is over with. The Patriots are having a three way quarterback competition but at the moment appear to have zero issue with letting Cam Newton start if he earns the position.

There is concern about how much time Cam Newton has to get familiar with everything that evolves around his job in New England. We've heard people say not to expect much. We've also heard different stories about Cam.

ESPN'S Tannenbaum said, “I'm not concerned at all, because Belichick is unbelievably consistent, and that goes for anybody in the personnel department. When we made a mistake -- and trust me, I'd know about it -- the standards were the standards. When we did a good job, there was adulation. What they want is consistency, and when Newton looks to his right and left, he'll be treated just the same. If he plays well, coach Belichick is going to celebrate him. And if he makes a mistake, he's gonna get called out."

Recently, Kyle love who played for both the Patriots and the with Cam in Carolina said Cam Newton cannot take criticism and that the New England Patriots staff was tougher on Brady than Carolina was on Cam; "They (Carolina) didn't talk to him."

If Love is right, Netwon may have a difficult time in foxboro, especially coming in feeling disrespected from having to wait almost three months to get signed. Newton might feel more disrespect from any criticism and not accept it. Keyword, might...

Tannenbaum continues, “For what I know of Newton indirectly, I think he's going to thrive there. I think they're going to be one of the more fascinating stories this year because what they'll be able to do with all the varied offensive things in the past. They're very hard to defend. I think he's going to fit in well. If you love football, working for Belichick is very easy.”

What Tannenbaum is referring to is the four game suspension of Tom Brady and the 2018 playoffs. If you remember, they Patriots made the offense a little more oriented for Brissett and Garoppolo; running more RPOs and such. In 2018, they became a run first, power run offense for the playoffs.

Tannenbaum has a history with Belichick going back thirty years. He knows Bill, this isn't Colin Cowherd or Steven A. Smith blowing hot air. This is someone who talks to Bill, who has worked with Bill.

Now Belichick wouldn't of signed Newton if he thought there was going to be problems he couldn't handle. The contract is team friendly, so Belichick can cut Newton if need be.

As far as the quarterback position, Belichick said "We’ve got a long way to go, and we’ll see how things turn out. I can’t control how players perform. That’s up to them. We’ll give everybody an opportunity and see what happens.”

Well respected offensive line coach, Dante Scarnecchia likes both Newton and Stidham. Scarnecchia praised Stidham for his work ethic and intellect  but admitted Cam was the better pure athlete. Scarnecchia thinks both are really good players. Scarnecchia has sceen Drew Bledsoe, Steve Grogan, Doug Flutie, Tom Brady, Jimmy G, Jacoby Brissett, just to name a few. So he knows talent.

Newton has NFL experience and an MVP award but Stidham has had a year of familiarity with the system, playbook, and roster while sharing a quarterback room with Tom Brady. Newton might be the front runner but it only takes one slip up for the guy in second to take the lead position. Either way,  this should be a win win for Patriots Nation.
