Devin McCourty reflect on Tom Brady's decision to leave the Patriots

Patriots players had more important things on their minds other than Tom Brady over the spring. They had to worry about the Coronavirus, where they were going to play, their families, and what time DPN Sports Talk was going live on sportscastr. At least that's what Devin McCourty told sirus-XFM.

“I honestly didn’t think twice about Tom Brady’s free agency, because I was a free agent, That was my main concern, where my family would end up. Would we be back in New England?”

Once D-Mac had his career on track for the 2020 season, he started focusing on his Patriots family. All of them, not just one member; unlike the media.

“Then when I signed my deal and I was back, you kind of think of all the guys. Tom, the Kyle Van Noys, the Jamie Collins’. All of those guys you had relationships with, Mathew Slater, That you kinda know, man, this could be it. That could have been the last game I played with these guys. When he made a decision, to me it wasn’t like the end of the world.”

McCourty had no beef with the nine time AFC champion and three time superbowl losing quarterback leaving to go play with the Buccaneers.

“You become a free agent, that’s what our league is about, That’s what players before us have fought for. Be a free agent and choose."

According to Matthew Schmidt "McCourty added that he is 'happy' for Brady and that the legendary quarterback was a 'great teammate.' "

When asked about Stidham, McCourty didnt hesitate to shower him with praise.

“To me, there were weeks where he was just on-point. And those were some of our best weeks as a defense, mainly because Stiddy ate us up in practice leading up to the game, and I think put more pressure on us. So I really admire just how hard he works, and then I’ve got to know him off the field as well. He’s a really good guy. Young guy, but very mature. He’s married. I think the Stidhams are going to be in New England for a long time.”

Brady is gone and Matthew Schmidt reminds fans not to expect anything during the upcoming months before kick off.

"It remains to be seen if Stidham can help channel that into production next season. That being said, there is also no guarantee that Stidham will even be the starter come Week 1. The Patriots brought back veteran Brian Hoyer over the weekend and should be Stidham’s biggest competition this ."

With Will Hastings and Jakobi Meyers Stidham had a good chance of success but then again, Hoyer has a chance to do what Trent Dilfer did in 2000. So we must wait and see. For now all we can do is tune into sportscastr and watch a little tv.
